Soft search (soft credit check)

In plain English

A credit check that doesn't leave a mark on your credit file visible to other lenders. Used for eligibility checks, pre-approvals and your own credit file checks. Only you can see soft searches on your file.

Example

Using an eligibility checker before applying for a credit card triggers a soft search — no impact on your score.
