CCJ (County Court Judgement)

In plain English

A court order issued in England and Wales when you fail to repay money you owe. A CCJ stays on your credit file for six years and significantly limits your ability to borrow. Paying a CCJ within a month allows it to be removed from the register.

Example

A lender takes you to court over an unpaid debt of £800. The court issues a CCJ, which appears on your credit file.
